The City of Cape Town has made a significant arrest in its ongoing efforts to enforce traffic laws and hold offenders accountable. A motorist with a staggering 167 outstanding warrants, totalling nearly R150 000, has been apprehended.
City law enforcement officers executed the arrest outside the individual’s residence in Masiphumelele last week Wednesday. The motorist, who has become one of the top offending drivers in the metro, is just one of the many motorists recently apprehended across the city.
JP Smith, the head of safety and security for the City, expressed his concerns about the persistence of these offenders despite the high number of warrants against them.
He emphasised that the arrest serves as a powerful reminder that those who break the law will be pursued and brought to justice. The City’s directorate of safety and security remains steadfast in its commitment to creating safer roads and a safer city for all residents.
Traffic violations and disregard for traffic laws pose serious risks to road safety and public well-being. The City is actively working to address these issues by taking decisive action against repeat offenders and individuals with outstanding warrants.
The City encourages all motorists to comply with traffic regulations and fulfil their responsibilities on the road. By doing so, we can collectively contribute to safer streets.
