The City of Cape Town will be requested to inspect the signage at Sea Point beaches following the recent drownings, according to Ward Councillor Nicole Jowell.

As reported by News24, Jowell said while the beach area is marked with ample signage cautioning visitors about its hazardous nature and explicitly indicating that swimming is prohibited due to rip tides, powerful swells and rocky conditions, there are no lifeguards stationed to oversee the safety of individuals who explore the beach or rocky areas.
On Tuesday, 4 July 2023, Laureen Leps (49), an estate agent, was swept into the ocean at Rocklands Beach in Sea Point. Despite being promptly transported to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.
The following day, on Wednesday, 5 July 2023, the body of an unidentified man believed to have fallen or jumped into the water was recovered from the surf near Rocklands Beach.
The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) has issued a safety alert urging the public to exercise caution during the upcoming days as a full moon spring tide is expected to bring about rough seas and stronger waves.
Furthermore, in Sea Point this week, a tragic incident occurred involving the demise of Munster’s rugby coach, Greig Oliver (58), who lost his life as a result of a collision between his tandem glider and another paraglider. His body was later recovered from the water near the Promenade area.
