The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate is currently experiencing low reservoir levels and is not able to sustain the consumption demand placed on it by the consumers in the Bloekoembos, Wallacedene, Eikendal and Peerless Park areas.
The City’s Acting Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation, Councillor Siseko Mbandezi said, “The challenge is that reservoirs are not able to fill up fast enough because of the prolonged period of load-shedding while residents are also using lots of water at the same time.
“The hot weather over the last few days and continuing over the weekend also influences the current scenario, but it is our urgent request that consumers in these areas seriously adhere to the City’s request to significantly reduce their water consumption or run the risk of having no water.
“They can do this by immediately cutting down on their usage of water for non-essential water-related activities.”
Councillor Mbandezi added, “While City teams are monitoring the water supply operations and usage very closely and doing all they can to maintain supply, we also need our residents to help us during this time by using less water,’ said Councillor Siseko Mbandezi, the City’s Acting Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation.”
The City has expressed its regret for the inconvenience caused and is calling on all residents to reduce non-essential water usage to maintain the water supply to the City of Cape Town.
Please note that affected areas could change depending on the situation. Any changes will be communicated to the public.
The City wishes to remind residents that tap water is still safe to drink.
