Competing fast-food franchise Pedros took a dig at Nandos after they terminated its five-year sponsorship deal with Gareth Cliff’s The Burning Platform show. Nandos released a statement on Saturday, October 23, indicating that the termination of the sponsorship comes after Cliff made inappropriate comments regarding Mudzuli Rakhivhane’s experience with racism.
The statement said that “Nandos supports healthy debate and the right to freedom of speech. For this reason, we have for years invested in supporting in multiple platforms that enable one discussion of big issues facing South Africans.”

Cliff’s comments sparked outrage all over social media as the Chief Audience Officer of the Independent Media Group and Editor-in-Chief of IOL, Lance Witten, said in a powerful statement, “Don’t you dare assume that my lived experience or the lived experience of other people of colour can be seen through your sanitised lens. Don’t you dare assume that race and identity politics doesn’t affect absolutely every aspect of my life and every sphere of my existence.”
However, Pedros took to social media to say that “The whole nation is welcome at Pedros. We don’t do politics.. Just Great Chicken at Great Prices!”
Now, thats spicy…
