The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) has called on all workers to join the national strike on Thursday, October 7. According to Cosatu, workers can either join the planned activities across the country or withdraw their labour by staying at home on the day of the strike.
Cosatu which represents 1.8 million workers in the country said on Tuesday that the proposed strike is legally protected and will focus on how the economy can be fixed and the issues that are affecting millions of workers, Business Tech reports.
The union indicated further, that it will also demand action from key roleplayers to stop attacks that are directed at workers, in the public and the private sector.

Meanwhile, workers affiliated with the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa took to the Community Centre in Bellville-South., on Tuesday, to dispute wages. NUMSA workers in the engineering sector downed tools after they failed to reach an agreement on wage increases with employers, SABC reported.
