The institute also reported a drop in the national positivity rate, which fell from 27.2% on Sunday to 22% on Monday, December 27.
“The 7-day average is 27.4%, which is lower than 28.5%. The 7-day moving average daily number of cases has decreased,” the NICD said.
Meanwhile, the United States Government confirmed that it will lift travel restrictions on eight southern African countries at 12 am on Friday, December 31.
The decision comes after the US barred all non-US citizens who had been in South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique and Malawi over the new COVID-19 variant that was detected in South Africa.
US Secretary of State called Minister Naledi Pandor this afternoon to inform us of this decision. We welcome this development & hope that the @UAE & the rest will follow in the coming days. https://t.co/R3qucDyOQH
