Khayelitsha police are investigating a case of murder after the body of an unknown man was found along Tutu Avenue, in Makhaza, Khayelitsha on Thursday, November 11. According to reports community members discovered the man’s body just after 7 am.
Western Cape Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said that the body was burnt beyond recognition and therefore, the victim’s age could not be estimated at this time. Van Wyk says although the reason for the murder is still unclear, police have launched an investigation. However, according to IOL, community members expressed that the man was killed after he allegedly stole three cellphones.
Van Wyk added that members of the community should refrain from taking law into their own hands, and also urged anyone with information to contact Harare Police Station on 021 363 9000 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, officers attached to the Western Cape Flying Squad arrested a 31-year-old suspect for the possession of a prohibited firearm at an intersection in Lingelethu West on Thursday.
According to police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, officers were busy with patrols when they noticed the suspect with a firearm in his hand trying to open the door of a delivery vehicle.
“When he saw the police approaching, he started to run. The suspect was arrested with a. 38 special revolver in his possession,” Twigg indicated.
Once charged, the suspects will make their respective court appearances in Wynberg and Khayelitsha Magistrate’s courts on Monday, November 15 to face the charges against them.
