A 50-year-old cyclist was crushed to death in a horrific accident on Sunday morning after being dragged by a minibus taxi “for over half a kilometre” before the vehicle was stopped by members of the public.
According to News24 , Netcare 911 said that the horrific accident even shocked emergency workers while spokesperson, Shawn Herbst explained that initial reports outlined two cyclists who were hit by a speeding taxi at around 07:00 on Bowling Avenue, near Kelvin Road in Johannesburg.
Fire and rescue services had to use hydraulic tools to free him after being trapped underneath the taxi, but the extent of his injuries were so severe that he was declared dead at the scene.
“The second cyclist, also an adult male, was treated on scene and once stabilised was rushed to hospital by ambulance for further care,” Herbst said as per IOL.
The driver of the taxi, who tried to flee the scene, was not injured.
