The Democratic Alliance (DA) announced plans to conduct a parliamentary oversight visit to the scene of a Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) student’s stabbing, despite the university’s denial of the party’s request on Monday.
The incident occurred on Saturday at a student residence in Belhar, involving a male University of the Western Cape (UWC) student stabbing a female CPUT student.

DA Member of Parliament (MP) Chantel King said CPUT’s refusal to allow the DA to do the oversight visit was ‘disconcerting.’
She emphasised the importance of transparency from CPUT in addressing safety concerns related to the incident. King stressed that, as elected representatives, they have a duty to conduct thorough oversight.
