A 20-year-old student from the University of Fort Hare in the Eastern Cape has reportedly passed away in a hospital after being struck by a police nyala during the Springboks’ victory tour on Sunday, 5 November.

Eastern Cape Health Department Sizwe Kupelo confirmed that Minentle Noqhamka, whose left leg had to be amputated as a result of the incident, died in Frere Hospital’s ICU on Tuesday.
According to Times Live, Noqhamka had gone to the East London CBD for shopping but joined the crowd in front of East London City Hall to witness the parade.
The police nyala struck her legs as Public Order Police were trying to move the Springbok team out of the city hall’s gates, reported News24.
Minentle’s family is devastated and is still grappling with the tragic incident.
‘It’s very sad for us as a family. We are still trying to come to terms with this,’ Times Live quoted Minentle’s father Sithembiso as saying.
