At this point, some Capetonians can’t resist a love-hate relationship with Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex.
Whether we like it or not, she’s often at the tip of our tongues as an icebreaker in conversations, the chat around office tea breaks, braai gatherings or even bathroom check-ups –either way, she has tounges wagging at some water cooler or another.
Since arriving in the UK last week for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, Markle has once again been at the centre of media controversy.
In a recent book by the royal correspondent Valentine Low – Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind The Crown – Meghan Markle is referred to as a “narcissistic sociopath”.
The book dives further into what happened in the run-up to the couple’s departure, and the kind of relationship Markle and Prince Harry shared with their staff. It also details how Markle would allegedly verbally abuse the royal staff. The book claims Markle’s departure was planned and that her main concern was whether she was going to be able to make money for herself.
Since the release of her new Spotify podcast series entitled Archetypes, she’s gained more haters. From celebs to news presenters, and most importantly, SA tweeps who had #VoetsekMeghan trending; Markle can’t seem to avoid the drama. From the Piers Morgan saga, or the John Kani debacle, Markle is often the hot topic of our conversations.
