Firefighters have made good progress in bringing the Du Toit’s Kloof fire under control after cooler overnight weather conditions worked in their favour.

The fire started yesterday afternoon and quickly spread towards the road, causing disruption to traffic flow. Fire Services deployed aerial resources to assist ground teams in containing the line running close to the road.
During the night, Cape Winelands District Municipality ground teams focused on the lines closest to the roads. The fire line above the entrance to the Huguenot Tunnel has been contained.

There are two other fire lines. One on the higher parts of the mountain to the right of the lodge is burning towards an area of very sparse vegetation. Once it reaches this area, ground teams will try to contain it there.

The other line to the left of the lodge is burning high up on a plateau. Three ground teams will be trooped there at first light.
The teams will continue with active firefighting activities throughout the day. There are four contracted ground teams from NCC and CapeNature and four firefighting vehicles from the CWDM on scene.
Both passes and tunnels are open to traffic.
