The owner of the infamous Enyobeni tavern and two employees have been arrested following the tragic deaths of 21 teenagers last month.
The 52-year-old owner and two staff members, aged 33 and 34, were arrested over the weekend and on Tuesday following the Eastern Cape Liquor Board opening a case at the Scenery Park police station for Contravention of the Liquor Act, as per EWN.
The owner is expected to appear in the East London magistrate’s court on 19 August, while the two employees have been hit with a fine. However, if payment is not made, they will need to appear in court, as per Times Live.
On 26 June, 21 teenagers lost their lives at the tavern as they celebrated the end of exams. While the cause of death is yet to be released, preliminary findings indicated that toxic fumes from a petrol generator within the tavern may have been the cause.
