In a continuous bid to ensure a safe festive season, Disruptive crime combatting operations conducted by the City of Cape Town Sub District (North) resulted in the arrests of over 460 suspects for a range of offences during the past week alone.

The offences included both serious offences such as murder, assault, sexual offences and the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as offences such as drunk driving, reckless and negligent driving and minor road safety traffic infringements.
According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcom Pojie, 102 of the arrests made by the Western Cape police were for drug-related offences resulting from the 75 house searches.
‘Confiscations made during these operations include 2 105 445 millilitres of alcohol, mandrax tablets with an approximate street value of R5 180, tik with an approximate street value of R5 040, dagga with an approximate street value of R1 224 as well as small quantities of khat, cocaine and ecstasy,’ said Pojie.

Police also confiscated two firearms, one round of ammunition and five black rounds.
City of Cape Town Sub District (North) Commander Brigadier Damoyi commended the SAPS members, metro police, law enforcement officers, traffic police, neighbourhood watch structures and reservists for their dedication and commitment to ensuring a safe festive season.
Damoyi also urged the community to continue assisting police in keeping their neighbourhoods free of criminal elements.
