Newkings Boutique Hotel in the Piazza Da Luz, home to the Mediterranean and Asian fusion restaurant, reported the fire just after 6pm, according to IOL.
City’s Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, told the publication that the cause of the fire is suspected to be the result of a faulty extractor fan in the restaurant’s kitchen.
‘The area was declared safe just after 7pm,’ said Carelse. ‘No persons were injured and two rooms on the fifth floor had to be ventilated as they were smoke-logged.’
