The Kiffness (real name: David Scott) has parodied the controversial flag-burning ad to the tune of Midnight Oil’s ‘Beds are Burning.’

Hours after engaging in a verbal spat on X with former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela, The Kiffness fuelled the fire over the controversial advertisement.
On Monday, the South African musician and parody artist responded to a post by Madonsela criticising the advertisement.

Madonsela stated that she believed ‘other metaphoric symbols’ could have been used to convey the DA’s message.
In response, Scott posted: ‘It’s not made to disrespect the flag, but to warn against the dangers of voting in another corrupt government.’

He then took things further, releasing his version of the advert to the tune of Midnight Oil’s iconic track.
‘Thirty years of democracy, champagne socialist hypocrisy. The ANC have begun their descent below 45%,’ Scott sings to the tune.

‘The time has come, to grab it by the neck and kick them out, they must all voetsek.’
‘How do we vote now the tide is turning? How do we rescue our flag from burning?’
DA federal chairperson Helen Zille stated that the party had nothing to defend in response to the advert.
The burning of the National Flag in a political advertisement is treasonous. The National Flag is a sacred symbol of our unity and existence as a nation and to burn it is despicable.

However, President Cyril Ramaphosa has condemned the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) election advert as ‘treasonous and unacceptable’.
He criticised the advert, which was intended to symbolise a bleak future without the DA, saying that burning the flag, a symbol of unity, was despicable and disrespectful.
