A 65-year-old former Camps Bay SAPS station commander who was arrested in 2020 on charges of indecent assault and the possession of child pornography was found dead on Tuesday, September 7.
According to IOL, Zbiegniew Andrzej Weclaw, was found in his Vredehoek residence after several attempts by the police and others to gain entry into his premises. However, a maintenance man at Weclaw’s flat gained entry and made contact with his son, Daniel Clifford Weclaw, who made the alleged sexual charges against his father.
“He then managed to send me a photo of my father lying dead in the bath.
“I knew it was him and immediately contacted the prosecutor and the police and demanded that they gain entry to the flat.
“They returned and gained entry and found my father lying dead in the bath but with clothes on.
“The way I found out was extremely traumatic,” Daniel said as quoted by IOL.
Weclaw was arrested on November 24 last year after Daniel came forward about the years of alleged sexual abuse he suffered at the hands of his father as a child.
In a Facebook post dating back ten months ago, Daniel said, “It’s taken me 30 gruelling years filled with heartbreak and tears to eventually find a way to expose this evil monster. My father sexually assaulted me for years as a child starting when I was 6 years and continued until the end of primary school.”
At the time of Weclaw’s arrest, officers found an unlicensed firearm and multiple boxes filled with homemade pornographic DVDs, some of which featured young boys, with some filmed by Weclaw.
Police spokesperson André Traut confirmed the incident, indicating that a death inquest has been registered. Meanwhile, National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila previously mentioned that the accused was out on bail.
