Western Cape Detectives are investigating claims that the bodies of four youths who were involved in an alleged mob justice attack were thrown into a river that runs through an informal settlement in Driftsands.
According to a police statement, police divers were called out to the area late on Saturday, September 4 after the families of the two youths (siblings) reported them missing at the Mfuleni Police station. The officers’ search party then led to the retrieval of a body of an unidentified man, however, it didn’t look like he was linked to the vigilante attack.
Police then resumed their search party on the Sunday along the banks of the river stream, but due to rainy weather conditions that caused the water levels to rise, a search inside the river stream by police divers proved difficult to execute. At that same time, a second body was also recovered by police divers. Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa added that police will continue with the search and urged the public who have information regarding the incident to contact SAPS on 08600 10111.
Meanwhile, police are also investigating the murder of an alleged Cape Town gang leader from Bonteheuwel who was shot and killed on Saturday, September 4. The 38-year-old Ryan “Swaggy” Swartz who is believed to be the leader of the Dixie Boys gang died after he was shot in the right shoulder.
