The lady reportedly sustained an injury.
NSRI Plettenberg Bay notified a former Mountain Club of South Africa member who lives in the area and knows the trail, and he responded.
The NSRI Plettenberg Bay rescue crew was activated and dispatched to assist our NSRI coast watcher team on scene.
During the response, there was a heavy downpour with hail, which exacerbated the situation and put an NSRI Plettenberg Bay swift water rescue team on alert.
When the team arrived, they found the couple on a trail in a gorge. The heavy rains had not caused any flash floods.
The lady, who was stable and walking wounded, received medical attention.
Rather than walking them out along the trail, the quickest route was up a gorge-side slope.

A high-angle technical rope rigging system was established, making it easier to transport the young couple and their toddler up the slope.
They were successfully rescued from the gorge through a technical rescue operation, and we transported them to Plettenberg Bay Hospital, where the lady is receiving medical care and is expected to recover completely.
Meanwhile, on Monday, the NSRI Knysna duty crew was activated following reports of a lagoon charter vessel in distress in the Knysna Heads with mechanical engine failure.
The NSRI Knysna rescue craft JayTee IV was launched, while SA National Parks (SANParks) rangers responded in their SANParks vessel and the NSRI Knysna crew responded on shore.
When the casualty vessel arrived on the scene, it had gently drifted onto the rocks of Eastern Head.
With the assistance of members of the public, the two passengers and two crew were able to disembark from the vessel and reach the shoreline.
Two NSRI rescue swimmers were deployed from our rescue craft into the water, swimming to the shoreline and conducting medical assessments on the casualties.
No injuries were sustained, and the two passengers and crew were walked back to the NSRI Station 12 rescue base, where they received additional assistance.
A private local ski-boat was able to attach a towline to the vessel and tow it off the rocks into deeper water, while the casualty craft was towed back to Leisure Isle Harbour without incident.
The two passenger casualties that were assisted were male and female, both tourists visiting from the USA (United States of America) and holidaying in Knysna.
