According to Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse, four residents sustained burn wounds but refused further medical treatment after an on-site assessment, while a fifth civilian was taken to hospital after suffering a seizure.
Disaster Risk Management (DRM) spokesperson Charlotte Powell said Gift of the Givers and SASSA will provide humanitarian assistance to affected persons who are currently staying with family or friends.
Powell added that officials from various departments, including electricity, informal settlements management, water and sanitation and solid waste management, will gather on-site to evaluate the extent of infrastructure damage resulting from the fire.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
