The Swartland, Overstrand and Mossel Bay K-9 Rural Safety Units arrested 14 people for various crimes, including dealing in drugs and abalone poaching.

According to the Western Cape Government, the arrests were made between 15 and 21 January 2024. Eight arrests were conducted in the Overstrand municipal area, one in Mossel Bay and five in Swartland.
In addition, the Mossel Bay K-9 unit conducted operations in Groot- and Kleinbrak Rivier and the JCC Camp, and roadblocks were held at different locations.

During one of the roadblocks, one person was arrested for outstanding warrants to the tune of R36 100. One vehicle was also impounded and one weapon was confiscated.
In total, the Swartland units’ operations in Malmesbury, Riebeeck-Wes and Darling resulted in the following arrests:
- One for dealing in liquor
- Three for the possession of drugs
- One for dealing in drugs
The units also confiscated the following:
- 208 mandrax tablets, including an individual with 200 mandrax tablets
- Two bankies and five tik straws
- A large quantity of liquor
The Overstrand arrests included:
- One for dealing in drugs
- One for robbery
- One for the possession of stolen property
- One wanted suspect
The unit confiscated the following:
- 6.19kg of dagga
- One stolen vehicle
- 576 shucked abalone
