The emergency response teams were notified about a man found unresponsive in the water. A local doctor, who happened to be there at the time, promptly began administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with the help of bystanders.
On arrival at the scene, medics performed advanced life support CPR but despite extensive efforts, sadly, the man was declared deceased.
It is believed that the deceased was a local man, aged 58, who passed from a suspected medical incident while swimming.
The body was taken into the care of government forensic pathology services, and SAPS has opened an inquest docket.
