Madatt sustained gunshot wounds on Monday, April 1 in the Kapteinsklip informal settlement in Mitchells Plain during an incident believed to be gang-related. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries, as reported by the Daily Maverick. Known for his involvement in criminal activities and violence, Madatt has a history of alleged drug deals and suspected murders he purportedly authorised. in the Kapteinsklip informal settlement in Mitchells Plain
Among the incidents linked to Madatt are the killings of suspected Americans gangsters Charra and Mark ‘Markie Mokes’ Williams in 2007. In 2008, he was sentenced to spend a decade in jail for convictions related to diamond and drug dealing. A decade later, Madatt faced another potential drug dealing charge, which was later withdrawn.
Madatt’s association with the Woodstock Massacre in November 2007, where five people were shot execution-style and several taxis were set ablaze, is also noted. At the time, Madatt owned the premises from which the murders occurred, namely a transport business operating there. The attacks were believed to be retaliation for Williams’s killing.
The Western Cape Gang Monitor, a report issued by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime, has documented the involvement of the Fancy Boys gang in an ‘expansion campaign,’ capitalising on fragmentation within other gangs, including the Americans. Additionally, internal conflicts within the Americans gang have further escalated tensions in the area.
