According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), members of the Maitland Flying Squad arrested an adult male in Khayelitsha who had a hijacked vehicle and a signal jamming device in his possession on Friday, 15 March 2024.
The owner of the stolen vehicle, a Toyota Hilux ‘light delivery vehicle’, assisted the flying squad by tracing the vehicle after the owner had ‘requested the assistance of the police’.

The vehicle was eventually intercepted on Spine Road, Khayelitsha, and once charged, the suspect will make a court appearance today in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court.
Arrests in Mitchells Plain
In an unrelated incident that also occurred on Friday, 15 March 2024, the Anti-Gang Unit deployed to ‘combat gang violence’ in the Lentegeur area conducted an intelligence-driven operation in Kreupelhout Street.
After arriving on the premises and conducting a search, a male suspect (23) was detained after it was discovered he unlawfully had a firearm and 51 rounds of ammunition in his possession. Both the firearm and ammunition were confiscated.
Soon after, a tracing operation was conducted for wanted suspects in the Lentegeur area, which led to the arrests of two suspects, aged 21 and 28, on attempted murder charges.
All three suspects are set to make their respective court appearances in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 18 March 2024.
