Members of the Maitland Flying Squad arrested abalone and indigenous flora poachers on Friday night, 26 April, in Milnerton, according to a recent media statement released by the South African Police Service (SAPS).

After following up on information and being dispatched to a premises in Milnerton, members searched the premises and found 1109 units of abalone, with an estimated street value of R554 500, as well as fridges and an electronic scale.
Members also seized indigenous plants that had an estimated worth of R500 000 at the premises.
Four suspects, between the ages of 28 and 38, were arrested and detained at Milnerton SAPS and charged with possession of protected and unprotected indigenous flora, as well as being in possession of abalone.
The suspects are due to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 29 April on the aforementioned charges.
