A Khayelitsha man has disappeared after being swept away at sea. Despite a thorough search, there is no sign of him.

At 4:10pm on Monday, the CoCT (City of Cape Town) water rescue network was notified by CoCT lifeguards of a drowning in progress at Monwabisi Beach in False Bay.
Lifeguards had launched into the surf, using Malibu rescue boards, to rescue a man who had been caught in rip currents, but the man had vanished almost immediately.
CoCT Law Enforcement, the WC Government Health EMS rescue squad, Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services, the SA Police Services, NSRI Strandfontein, and the EMS/AMS Skymed rescue helicopter were all activated.

SAPS WPDS (Water Policing and Diving Services) were notified.
When rescue services and the rescue helicopter arrived on the scene, they assisted the lifeguards in conducting an extensive search in rough sea conditions.

Despite an extensive air, sea and shoreline search, the missing man, a 23-year-old Somali resident of Khayelitsha, has yet to be located.
SAPS WPDS responded to the scene, and police divers are still conducting a search operation.
