Parents and caregivers are encouraged to vote in the upcoming School Governing Body (SGB) elections.
SGBs play a crucial role in representing various sectors of the school community, including parents, teachers, non-teaching staff, and learners in Grades 8 to 12.

They are instrumental in shaping the school’s policies, including admission and language policies and contribute to the formulation of the school’s constitution and mission statement, as well as establishing the code of conduct and disciplinary procedures.
David Maynier, MPP Minister of Education in the Western Cape urges parents to fully participate in the voting process on the dates communicated by their schools and to ‘carefully select candidates that have the best interests of their children at heart’.

SGB elections can be undertaken manually, electronically or via both methods.
During manual selections, schools may allocate timeslots when parents are allowed to visit schools. Voting must occur in one day, starting no earlier than 7am and may not end later than 8pm. A manual voting station must be open for a minimum of 5 hours.
E-elections are open for a full day between 7am and 8pm. Schools that host e-elections must set up at least one e-voting station at the school to make provision for those can not vote online.
Parents must nominate candidates for the voters’ roll before their school’s election.
