A total of 24 people lost their lives in major motor vehicle accidents over the weekend.

On Friday, an incident involving three vehicles on the R43 near Villiersdorp resulted in the death of six people – including four children.
The second accident occurred on the N1 between the Prince Albert turnoff and Laingsburg. Five people lost their lives and one person was critically injured.
On Saturday evening, at around 6pm, a bus lost control and collided with a truck in Hexriver Mountain Pass between De Doorns and Touws River. A total of 13 people died and many others were injured.
According to the Western Cape Mobility Department, ambulance assistance was called in from as far as Cape Town and other nearby stations.
The bus was travelling from Zimbabwe to Robertson, and the driver reportedly jumped out of the bus. He lost his life as well.
The road was reopened at 4:30am this morning.
Provincial Minister of Mobility, Ricardo Mackenzie, extended his condolences to the loved ones of the victims. ‘My heartfelt condolences go out to the loved ones of the 11 people who died in two separate road crashes in our province yesterday,’ he told SABC News.
‘I wish a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured. I also want to thank the dedicated teams who responded to these tragic incidents, working long hours under difficult circumstances.’
