Counterpart colleagues from Metro Police’s Tactical Response Team (TRU) seized the first firearm of 2023 when they arrested a suspect in Hanover Park.
This arrest was made alongside a number of others by Metro Police and their K9 units for various drug consignments.

On Tuesday, 2 January, Alderman JP Smith disclosed various successes of Metro Police, its K9 Unit, and its counterpart colleagues over the course of December 2022 and the first days of 2023.
He said that from 14 until 28 December, LEAP members took eight firearms off the streets of Cape Town.
It was counterpart colleagues from Metro Police’s Tactical Response Team (TRU) who seized the first firearm of 2023 when they arrested a suspect in Hanover Park.
“The majority of Law Enforcement and Traffic Services personnel have been deployed along the coastline to handle the influx of beach visitors, but both LEAP and GDTT members have remained in the designated areas and gang hotspots, with the reward of a worthwhile success,” said Smith.
