Residents in the Milnerton area are urged to be cautious and not let anyone ‘pretending to be a tree trimmer’ onto their property.

The Milnerton Crime Watch group on Facebook warned about a conman trying to gain access to properties under the guise of being a gardener.

“There’s a conman moving around Milnerton central again wanting to gain access to properties to ‘trim trees for the neighbour’. Do NOT allow him access. Please call MCWT immediately. If you need to get someone to access your neighbours property walk next door with them and introduce the guy and ask permission. No exceptions. Please take note of the above and keep safety first,” they said in a post.

A woman from Milnerton said a man arrived at her door saying he was cutting the bush on her neighbour’s side and needed to gain access from her garden.

In the post she said: “He was quite insistent that I come outside but luckily I didn’t have the key close by. I then checked with my neighbour and they had no such person working for her. Be careful people.”

She added that he was carrying a little notebook and might have been carrying a weapon, and described the man as average in height wearing a casual jeans and t-shirt.

It is that time of the year when scams are at an all-time high so practise caution when allowing anyone on to your property.
