The National Sea Rescue Insitute (NSRI) issued a warning of rough sea conditions for this weekend, with the South African Weather Service (SAWS) predicting the arrival of cold fronts expected to affect coastlines and inland waterways.
‘We are appealing to shoreline anglers, boaters, commercial seafarers, and coastal hikers to be aware of rough sea conditions and the impact of forecast weather affecting the coastline and inland.
‘Boaters and commercial seafarers are advised not to launch in adverse weather conditions unless absolutely necessary and to wear life-jackets while their vessel is underway or during commercial operations at sea,’ the NSRI said in a statement.

Shoreline anglers and coastal hikers should take note of the two daily high and low tides and exercise caution along the shoreline.
Beachgoers are urged to be cautious of rough seas, strong winds and powerful rip currents during adverse weather conditions and avoid taking unnecessary risks.
‘Do not attempt to cross through rivers and roadways affected by flooding or cross over bridges swamped by flood waters.’
Stay informed by monitoring SAWS weather updates and understanding their predicted impact.
The NSRI and emergency services are on high alert and ready to respond to any emergencies along the coastline or related to flooding and inland waterways.
