The incident occurred while an armed response officer from SJC Security was closing the doors for the day shortly after 8pm.
Speaking to TygerBurger, the managing director of SJC Security in Brackenfell, Charl du Toit, said that the officer was then confronted by four men.
‘Four armed men confronted him in front of the locked doors and lead him away to the main store with three guns held to his head,’ Du Toit said. ‘He managed to break free and run ahead to the main store, where he yelled, “Armed robbery in progress!”‘
According to Du Toit, the four suspects had already started running for a Volkswagen Polo that was waiting as one of the getaway cars.

Five other robbers, who were in the main store, were apparently frightened by the officer’s alarm as customers and staff started running to the back of the store.
However, just prior to this, another SJC officer entered the store where she was also held at gunpoint.
‘Bewildered and before they could take anything, the robbers let go of the security officer, ran out of the store and fled the scene in another Volkswagen Polo in the direction of Wallacedene,’ Du Toit explained.
Other response units from SJC arrived at the store minutes later and were joined by Kraaifontein police, who arrived on the scene to investigate.
According to Du Toit, no shots were fired and nobody was injured, and he applauded the valour the two officers displayed.
‘They put their lives on the line for others and prevented a robbery with their swift actions.’
