The du Toit family is back in the hot seat. First, Theuns du Toit urinated all over a black student’s belongings at Stellenbosch University. Now, older brother Pierre has been pictured smiling with the country’s old flag – the one which flew for South Africa under the apartheid regime and is now, by law, considered a form of hate speech.

Three years ago, the Equality Court in SA said that the flag could not be displayed in private and public spaces but could be displayed for artistic, academic or journalistic expression in the public interest.
According to IOL, the picture was taken in December 2019 in the Boland town of Worcester, where the boys went to school.
As for the first-year law student, Theuns was filmed making a brief apology to his residence on campus. “I just want to apologise in general for my behaviour, I know what I did was wrong, and I’m sorry”, he says in the 16-second clip.
The picture of Pierre has surfaced whilst his brothers’ case remains under investigation. He and his father Rudi have allegedly denied an “opportunity” for comment.
