The sixth Paws on the Promenade fundraiser saw dogs dressed to the nines in tutus, ribbons, bowties and more.
The pets joined their owners on the five-kilometre dog walk between the Mouille Point Lighthouse and the Sea Point Swimming Pool and back, raising R45 786 for the non-profit animal shelter and shelter, Mdzananda Animal Clinic.

‘We are absolutely delighted with the turnout,’ says Marcelle du Plessis, Paws on the Promenade organiser and fundraising and communications executive of Mdzananda Animal Clinic.
‘Nearly double the amount of people and dogs joined us in comparison to our 2020 event. Due to COVID-19 and venue issues, the event could not take place in 2021 to 2023 and we were very excited to launch the event again in 2024.’
The Mdzananda Animal Clinic serves up to 1 500 animals each month via consultations, hospitalisation, general and orthopaedic surgeries, continuous sterilisations, mobile clinics, an animal ambulance, inspectors and a homeless pet shelter.
‘We are so grateful to Vondi’s Holistic Pet Nutrition who partnered with Mdzananda in making this event possible, and to all the people and dogs who came to support us,’ Du Plessis adds.
Cindy Jacobson, manager of Vondi’s Holistic Pet Nutrition, says Paws on the Promenade is a highlight of the year. ‘We support Mdzananda because of their excellent professionalism and the impact they make in the Khayelitsha community, educating pet owners and treating sick pets that would otherwise have little to no help.’
The next Paws on the Promenade will take place in March 2025.
