In its ongoing commitment to maintaining a reliable water supply for the residents of Cape Town, the City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has announced planned maintenance work in specific areas.
While these necessary infrastructure upgrades will result in temporary water supply disruptions, they are crucial for ensuring a sustainable and efficient water system.
From 25 to 30 July, the maintenance team will be focusing on several key areas to carry out vital pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements. The following areas will experience planned water supply disruptions during the specified times:
Simon’s Town – Tuesday, 25 July
The main water supply to Simon’s Town will be shut off from 8am until 5pm on Tuesday, 25 July. This scheduled interruption is necessary to safely disconnect the old water pipeline and connect the newly installed water pipeline along Flagship Way to the existing infrastructure.
Residents in Simon’s Town are advised to take note of this work and make necessary arrangements during the temporary water outage.
Brooklyn, Sanddrift and Tygerhof – Saturday, 29 July
The main water supply to Brooklyn, Sanddrift and Tygerhof will be shut off from 9pm on Saturday, 29 July, overnight until 5:30am on Sunday, 30 July.
The maintenance team will be focusing on safely conducting maintenance on the pressure-reducing valve on the pipeline. The water supply will be temporarily disrupted during this period and residents in these areas are encouraged to prepare accordingly.

The City acknowledges the inconvenience that planned maintenance work may cause and assures residents that careful consideration has been given to the planning of these upgrades. The aim is to execute the work at a time that minimises disruptions to the water supply.
It is important for the public to note that all sites where water and sanitation repairs and upgrades are conducted are deemed construction sites and, therefore, off-limits to the public. This measure is in place to ensure the safety of both residents and workers during the maintenance process.
While every effort is made to complete the maintenance work efficiently, sometimes the complexity of the tasks may extend the duration of the water supply disruptions.
Following the restoration of the water supply, residents may notice temporary discolouration or a milky appearance in the water. This is caused by trapped air in the pipes and is not a cause for concern. The water will return to its normal clarity after a brief period.
To minimise inconvenience during the planned water supply disruptions, residents are advised to take the following steps:
- Prior to the scheduled maintenance, ensure you have enough water stored in clean, sealed containers for use during the temporary water outage.
- Keep your taps closed during the water supply disruption to prevent water loss and potential damage when the supply is restored.

As the City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate undertakes these crucial infrastructure upgrades, they sincerely regret any inconvenience caused and appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation in ensuring a sustainable water future for Cape Town.
