A supermarket robbery was stopped by Cape Town police, who also found and confiscated police gear and weapons.
Four suspects were detained by a specialized police team after they attempted to rob a supermarket in Langa on Friday.

According to Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg, officers detained the suspects, who were between the ages of 30 and 36, following a tip-off and seized illegally obtained weapons, ammunition, and possibly stolen property.
‘The members followed up on information received about a business robbery that would be perpetrated at a supermarket in Langa,’ said Twigg.
‘Descriptions of the vehicle and suspects were also given. The members spotted a vehicle as described, with the occupants, and pulled it off the road.
‘The vehicle and the occupants were searched and two pistols, ammunition, bulletproof vests and police uniform items were found in the vehicle.’
The suspects are set to appear in the Athlone magistrate’s court on Monday, said Twigg.
‘They face charges related to the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition and the possession of presumed stolen property.’
Meanwhile, a suspect was arrested for the possession of a homemade zip gun and ammunition on Thursday.
Police received information about a firearm at a premises in Buttercup Street, Klapmuts and searched the premises.
‘Upon searching the premises they found a homemade zip gun with ammunition. Two adult males were arrested and detained,’ said Twigg.
‘They will appear in Paarl Magistrates court on Monday on charges of an imitation firearm and the illegal possession of ammunition.’
In an unrelated matter, members of the West Coast Rural Flying Squad arrested two suspects on Thursday evening in Laaiplek for the possession rock lobsters.
‘The members received information of a Toyota Hilux bakkie that is driving in the direction of Elands Bay with lobsters in the vehicle.’
‘The vehicle was stopped and searched and 1113 rock lobsters and 1044 undersize rock lobsters were confiscated.
The duo will appear in the Laaiplek Magistrates court tomorrow.
