The Durban Police are investigating a person of interest in the murder of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes. Forbes was fatally shot outside a restaurant on Florida Road Friday evening, 10 February 2023.

A second person, said to be the artist’s bodyguard was wounded while another, Tebello Motsoane, a close friend of AKA, was also killed in what’s believed to have been a hit ordered on Kiernan “AKA” Forbes.
As reported by City Press – Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said, “It is still early in our investigation and the team is yet to brief me. I know they are following some leads.”
AKA was due to perform at the Durban nightclub, YUGO, where he was expected to perform as part of his birthday celebrations according to social media posts.
Moses Tembe, the father of Forbes’ fiancé Anele Tembe, who died after she fell from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town two years ago, expressed his condolences to the Forbes family.
Moses Tembe told City Press that he reached out to the family of AKA – “As a parent, I feel deep pain for Kiernan’s parents, Tony and Lynn, his daughter Kairo and the family at large.”
Anele Tembe was in Cape Town to attend an event with Forbes in April 2021 when she fell to her death from the 10th floor of the hotel.
Tembe released a statement that said:
“It is with the deepest shock that we’ve learnt of the passing of Kiernan. The Tembe family would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Forbes family on the passing of their beloved son.”
“Kiernan was an extraordinary and talented musician. His music contributes meaningfully to South Africa’s and indeed Africa’s rich music tapestry. We therefore extend our condolences to his extended family – his fans. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
The parents of Forbes’ expressed their “extreme sadness” at the loss of their son.
“Our son was loved and he gave love in return. In this time of grief, we appeal for your compassion, space and time to congregate as a family to decide on the upcoming days,” they said in a statement sent to News24.
“To many, he was AKA, SUPERMEGA, BHOVA and many other names,” they said. But to them, he was Kiernan Jarryd Forbes – a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, and most importantly, a father to his daughter Kairo.
“We thank you for the love and support we have received thus far and ask you to continue to keep us in your prayers and uplifted in the Lord,” they added.
