Since its inception in November last year, the National Counterfeit Unit has seized counterfeit goods worth more than R300 million.
It also impounded 31 vehicles used in the commission of crime and arrested 23 suspects of different nationalities.

In addition, police also seized manufacturing equipment, such as sewing-, embroidery-, and silk-screening machines used to counterfeit unbranded items.
Last week, the unit seized counterfeit goods valued at more than R80 million during an integrated takedown operation in Bellville.
Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk says the team included members from various specialised units of the South African Police Service (SAPS), officials from the South African Revenue Services (SARS), Border Management Authority (BMA) and Brand Protectors.
Two Somalian suspects were arrested and nearly 100 000 counterfeit items were seized. This included clothing, sports apparel, shoes, bags, caps and perfumes.
