The City is asking residents to opt for online car licence renewal rather than in person, to avoid large volumes of people gathering in one place.
The lockdown as a result of COVID-19 has put many admin-related chores on the back-burner and licence renewal has certainly been one of the most affected.
The licence renewal period was shifted to November 2020 but the Automobile Association feels motorists need more time to avoid crowding and unnecessary stress.
Testing and renewal centres have been under immense pressure since they reopened due to the sheer volume of customers and the rush is showing no signs of slowing down.
According to the national Transport Department licence discs expiring at the end of March, April or May must be renewed by Monday, April 31.
The City is concerned as they continue to experience high volumes of transactions both online and at offices.
As in-person renewals can pose a threat to stopping the spread of COVID-19, customers are being asked carrying out the process online where possible.
