Officer Kwinana (32) was gunned down on 4 August in Nyanga while conducting patrols during the unrest caused by the taxi strike.
Alderman JP Smith, mayoral committee member for safety and security said, ‘The reward has been elevated to an unprecedented sum of R1.35m.’
Officer Kwinana was a passenger in a clearly marked law enforcement vehicle, patrolling through Nyanga when the vehicle came under intense gunfire. When his fellow officers discovered that he had been struck they rushed him to Heideveld Day Hospital.
Unfortunately, upon arrival, Officer Kwinana was declared deceased due to gunshot wounds to the head.
As part of an immediate endeavour to capture the individuals responsible for the shooting of the LEAP officer amid the taxi-related violence in Nyanga, the City is urging the public to report any information related to this attack to the city’s toll-free tip-off line so the criminals can be arrested. The number is 0800 11 0077
