On Saturday, 14 October, the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon will start with trail runs and shorter peace runs before the main event takes to the streets the following day.

Runners take on the 42.2km marathon from the start line outside the DHL Stadium to Newlands via Nelson Mandela Boulevard, passing through Woodstock, Salt River and Mowbray before reaching the CBD and Sea Point.
Due to this, the City of Cape Town advises residents and motorists of road closures in the CBD, Atlantic Seaboard and the southern Suburbs on Sunday, 15 October:
- Helen Suzman Boulevard (between Beach Road and Granger Bay Boulevard) – 6am to 2:30pm
- Beach Road (between Surrey Pl and Portswood Drive) – 4am to 8am
- Three Anchor Bay Rd (between Main Road and Beach Road) – 6am to 2pm
- Beach Road (between Helen Suzman Boulevard and Queens Road) 3am to 2:30pm
- Fritz Sonnenberg Road (between Stephan Way and Beach Road) – 6:30am to 8:30am
- Buitengracht Street (between Helen Suzman Boulevard and Dock Road) – 5:30am to 8:15am
- Nelson Mandela Boulevard Outbound lanes (between Dock Road and Searle Street) – 5am to 9am
- Newmarket Street (between Strand Street and Russell Street) – 6:15am to 12:15pm
- Long Street (between Riebeek and Strand streets) – 6:30am to 1pm
- Nelson Mandela Boulevard Onramp Hertzog Blvd Nelson Mandela Blvd 5am to 9am
- Buitengracht Street (Riebeek Street Inbound and Somerset Rd Inbound Intersection closed) 6:45am to 12:30pm
- Sir Lowry / Victoria Rd Inbound Lanes (between Salt River Road and Searle Street – 4:30am to 9:20am
- Liesbeek Parkway/Malta Road (between Station Road and Lower Main Road) – 6am to 11:45am
- Albert Road (between Salt River Circle and Lower Church Street)- 5am to 12pm
- Letterstedt / Claremont Boulevard (between Main Road and Hawthorne Road) – 4am to 10am
- Campground Road (between Campground Rd / Pilland Road Circle and Park Road) – 6:15am to 11am

‘The City is deploying its safety and security services to assist in [the] management of logistics and safety in and around the event footprint,’ says Alderman JP Smith, Mayco member for safety and security.
‘Traffic services will be working with event marshals at crucial intersections in various areas to ensure minimal disruptions to the movement of traffic, assisting residents to move through various detours while also safeguarding the race route. We would like to advise those who will be on the road during this time to please exercise patience and heed the signs for detours.’
The City reminds residents that no parking will be allowed on Long Street between Riebeeck and Strand Street on the morning of the marathon. Parking will also not be allowed on Plein, St Johns and Hatfield Street between Darling Street and Orange Street between 6:30am and 12:30pm.
