Victoria Road reopened in both directions on Friday morning [December 18]. A fire broke out between Bakoven and Camps Bay at 2.41pm on Thursday afternoon  causing traffic to be diverted for firefighters to battle the blaze. Drivers can now access the road from Camps Bay all the way through to Hout Bay.

The City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service, along with teams from the Table Mountain National Park and Working on Fire, battled the blaze on the mountain slopes in the Camps Bay area.

Jermaine Carelse, Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson, confirmed the fire was contained at around 4am on Friday morning. They will keep a watchful eye over the area in case of flare ups.

“Fresh crews will arrive after 9am and will be assisted by our Seasonal firefighters,” he said. “All roads have been reopened.”
