Western Cape South African Police Service (SAPS) teams confiscated cash to the value of R4.6 million and expensive watches at a Claremont premises over the weekend after arresting a suspect, according to a recent media statement.
This serves as part of protracted investigations into the ‘scourge of organised crime and its manifestations’, as investigation teams had previously arrested the 34-year-old suspect for defeating the ends of justice.

While the ongoing investigation continues, the suspect was also charged with possession of ‘presumably stolen property’, and appeared in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court yesterday afternoon.
There is also the possibility of further charges being added as the investigation gains momentum.
In the same Claremont house linked to the suspect, empty 9mm pistol cases were stashed in a concealed storeroom, alongside the seized cash in travel cases with 16 prestigious high-end watches.
The suspect is being held in custody for other serious offences emanating from ongoing major investigations, with one of the investigations being to determine the origins of the money and items seized.
