The South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested suspects for the illegal possession of firearms on Friday evening, 3 May in two separate incidents, according to a recently released media statement from the SAPS.

While conducting a stop and search operation in Tafelsig, Mitchell’s Plain, members of Operation Shanela searched a ‘suspicious looking man’ who acted nervous when he saw the police vehicles.
After searching the suspect, members found a .38 Special revolver with ammunition in his possession, and he was subsequently arrested for illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated matter, an adult male was arrested in Naaulands Street, Riemvasmaak by members of Somerset West for the illegal possession of a firearm.
This was after SAPS members received information regarding an armed suspect walking on the road, after acting upon the tip-off, the suspect was apprehended.
A 9mm pistol with ammunition was discovered in his backpack.
Both suspects will make their respective appearances in the Mitchell’s Plain and Somerset West Magistrates’ Courts on Monday, 6 May.
