Police in the Western Cape has once again succeeded with operation “guns off the streets” after members attached to Lockdown II Unit arrested suspects for the possession of firearms and ammunition around the city on Friday, August 20.
According to a police statement, officers were busy conducting a vehicle checkpoint in Market road, Philippi East when they searched the driver of a white Toyota Etios and discovered a firearm tucked into his waist. A 35-year-old man was then arrested and detained.
Officers also arrested a 22-year-old man in Samora Machel after they acted on the information of two armed males, walking down the road. The suspect was detained when he was found with a 9mm Norinco pistol with ammunition.
Meanwhile, three men were arrested after being found in the possession of an unlicensed firearm, SABC reported.
