A 23-year-old suspect accused of breaking into the home of an elderly woman in Willowmore on Sunday has been captured in the Western Cape.

According to spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa, it is alleged that the 84-year-old woman, residing on a farm outside the town, heard suspicious noises emanating from her roof.
Upon investigation, she encountered the intruder inside her kitchen. Mawisa further stated that the suspect severed the telephone cables and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash after assaulting the victim, who sustained injuries.
Nearly 12 hours later, the victim’s daughter found her mother still on the floor. Thanks to swift police intervention following the opening of a case on Monday, the suspect was promptly apprehended in De Rust, Western Cape.
Lieutenant Colonel Mawisa confirms that the individual will be brought back to Willowmore to face court proceedings on Thursday.
