A fire broke out at the five-star Shelley Point Hotel & Spa in St Helena Bay this past Tuesday morning.
Guests and staff were promptly evacuated from the premises as the fire surged through the hotel. Firefighters, including reinforcements from Saldanha Bay, battled fiercely against the flames, aggravated by weather conditions amplifying its spread.
While the cause of the fire remains undetermined, Saldanha Bay’s chief fire operator, Basil January, highlighted the challenges faced by the brigade in combating the blaze, aggravated by windy conditions.
Thankfully, although several people suffered from smoke inhalation, no severe injuries were reported.
