Meanwhile, according to IOL, the Manenberg community are still on the hunt for the alleged murderer of Elene Lino. However, Lino’s sister, Candice Baartman discovered her sister’s body after questioning Lino’s 49-year-old boyfriend, Gavin Manuel, who was found at the scene.
“He wanted to take out the bin and I asked him, ‘Where are you going with the bin?’ He said he was going to throw the bin out. I asked him ‘at this time of the night?’ and he said ‘yes’”, said Candice, according to IOL.
Baartman also claims that she allegedly found blood all over Manuel’s T-shirt and head and he had a knife in his pants pocket.
Community leader and activist, Amina Abrahams says the alleged suspect (Lino’s boyfriend) was released from prison recently for raping a close family member of Lino and the community gathered in numbers, with batons, pangas and other weapons on Tuesday, 11 January, after hearing that the 49-year-old was back in the area.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday night, 12 January and the funeral is set to take place next week Tuesday, 18 January.
