The precautionary notice was issued on Friday, and pertains to the following areas:
- Simon’s Town
- Noordhoek
- Fish Hoek
- Glencairn Heights
- Kommetjie
- Scarborough
- Sun Valley
- Sunnydale
- Capri
- Misty Cliff
- Ocean View
- Koggelfontein
Zahid Badroodien, the City’s Mayco member for water and sanitation, says no cause for the anomalies has been identified yet. ‘The anomalies showed no clear pattern. However, all potential sources are being investigated,’ he told News24.
Two consecutive negative results for contamination are needed for the precautionary boil notice to be lifted. ‘Results at this stage already show an improvement in the water quality,’ Badroodien added. ‘It is important to note that there is no concern related to the quality of the water produced at the water treatment plant that serves this area.’
A follow-up meeting will be held today during which the results of yesterday’s testing will be revealed. According to Badroodien, the water and sanitation team flushed and disinfected the water as soon as it discovered the anomalies in the water quality.
