The bus that carried the Bokke on the last leg of their trophy tour through the streets of East London over the weekend crashed into a private home in Maletswai, formerly known as Aliwal North, on Monday evening.
Fortunately, none of the players were on board, as the team had already flown to Johannesburg on Sunday after completing tours in Cape Town, Durban, Gauteng and East London.

As per News24, Tow truck driver Brian Heger, who was on the scene, said the bus’s brakes failed as it approached the T-junction at Somerset Street and Queens Terrace, causing the driver to lose control of the bus, which then ploughed into the fence of a private home before coming to a complete stop in the yard of the property.
The driver and two passengers onboard were unharmed.
A statement released by the Provincial Transport Department stated the driver lost control of the bus in wet and slippery conditions in Aliwal North; the road he was driving on was on a downward slope. When he applied the brakes, the bus skidded off the road and crashed into a private home.
While Heger shared that the bus needed to be towed to Johannesburg, SA Rugby refuted the claim.
Yusuf Jackson, SA Rugby’s operations manager, stated: ‘The bus was en route back to Johannesburg from East London. It skidded off the road due to the wet conditions. Our feedback from the bus company is that no reported damage was sustained by the vehicle; nor was any person injured or hurt. To confirm, the bus safely made its way back to Johannesburg.’
